There is no shortage of surveys that reveal where the happiest places to live are (Orkney, Richmondshire and Rutland, if you’re wondering) and the best spot for personal wellbeing (a title that belongs to Rushmoor in Hampshire, which has the highest average rating for life satisfaction in the UK).
Likewise, there are a number of reports on employment, with Orkney (87.9%), Stroud (85.7%) and Dartford (85.4%) the top three places in the UK that have the highest employment rates (against the UK average of 74.2%.). Now a new study has brought a number of elements together to declare the ‘happiest UK cities in which to live and work’ – a set of results that should interest those set on delivering the perfect live-work equilibrium.
Data from a study by CV-Library – carried out on 2,000 people by psychologist Dr Cliff Arnall -concluded that the perfect setting was the seaside, with the most happiness delivered on a daily basis in two coastal resorts. To this effect, it was Brighton and Swansea that topped the list of the UK’s happiest cities to live and work in, with 86.4% and 75%, respectively, of professionals living and working in this duo of seaside cities feeling happy on a daily basis.
The study looked at how happy people were with their work-life balance, how much they enjoyed their employment, and how confident they were about finding a new job, if they were searching for new employment.
Overall, the results made surprising reading, with the top 10 happiest places to live and work listed below, accompanied by the average per calendar month rent in the city:
